They come when needed,
Regular duty or volunteer--
To save your life or your home,
And to allay your fears.
They're called First Responders
Because they're the first to arrive,
Whether medical emergency, violence, or fire--
They make sure the injured have the best chance to survive.
They're EMT's, Police
And firefighters--
They do their jobs well,
Even working all nighters.
They come to a scene,
Not knowing what they'll find--
They may see terrible things,
But have to keep their presence of mind.
They know some call
May be their last--
But they are doing a job they love,
And that's all anyone can ask.
