The Beatles
Were a famous band,
My older sister
Was one of their biggest fans.
Elvis Presley
Was the king of rock and roll--
His wonderful music
Will never grow old.
Bobby Goldsboro's song "Honey"
Told a sad story that made you cry,
John Denver's beautiful songs--
Especially "Rocky Mountain High".
The Carpenters--I loved their songs,
The Partridge Family,
The Cowsills, Jackson's and Osmond's,
Combinations of rock, folk, and country.
Kenny Rogers, Petula Clark and
Dusty Springfield are a few more--
Englebert Humperdinck and of course
Tom Jones made audiences roar.
I can't leave out
Neil Diamond or Barry Manilow,
All these artists songs could cheer you
When you were feeling low.
When I was little,
I had a record player in my room--
I listened to all sorts of music
And sang along out of tune.
I listened to the radio then,
And still do driving my car--
The oldies station I love best,
I know every word by heart.
And gospel music
Has a special place
Deep inside my heart--
It led me to my Lord's grace,
From that I'll never part.
My nieces and nephews laugh at me
And say my music is "old fashioned",
That's okay, they can have theirs,
I'll keep my eclectic collection.
