Our Sweet Sassy Girl

We got her when she was 8 weeks old,

An adorable ball of fur.

If you woke her from her nap--

She'd do a little "grrrr".

She loved people,

Mom and I especially,

She'd greet us at the door

Whenever she heard our key.

She got diabetes,

And eventually went blind--

But she never lost her friendliness,

And her temperament was always kind.

Then she started sleeping,

And barely ate her food--

We took her to the vet,

And got some shocking news.

She had liver cancer--

Her belly was full of blood,

Chances are she would bleed to death

Before surgery could be done.

We took the vet's recommendation--

We loved her up and said goodbye.

She licked my hand, and looked at Mom--

The settled with a sigh.

The vet made sure she was comfortable

And as we talked and petted her-

She went to Rainbow Bridge

To join our other dogs waiting there.

We kept our word to her,

We kept her safe and loved.

We had her back when she was scared,

And now she's healthy and playing above.
