Everyone in our society talks that they want to have honesty, truthfulness, and transparency in our country and taught in schools. If that's the case, then why are people insisting on changing the subjects covered throughout history, and banning books they deem inappropriate to be taught, even to age appropriate classes? Is it the students that can't handle these things, or is it the adults who don't want them to be included? The books have been used to teach for years, and the parts of history they don't want taught, happened. It's honest, truthful, and definitely transparent. Even the parts that show us at our worst. You can't pretend certain parts of history never happened just because hearing about them makes you uncomfortable. The people involved in what happened weren't comfortable about it either. But they would rather have the truthful account of what happened told instead of being omitted. People need to be told so things don't keep happening. You can't pick and choose what to teach--you can't live a full life without knowing about all the elements and events that have made you who you are. Some may not care for the story, but to be honest, truthful and transparent--EVERYTHING has to be told. Otherwise, it's called HYPOCRISY.
