READING IS GOOD

There are many of us who love to read.  We don't look down on those who don't,  but we may feel sad for the enjoyment and adventure they miss out on. What is amazing,  is that some people who have never cracked a book,  suddenly get all up in the air about the language or stories in the books. We're  not talking smut, pornography, or lurid tabloid stories.  We're  talking about historical literature written centuries ago when the wording was different and society was different. People wrote what they knew. These days people say "tell it like it is", or "it is what it is". You can't re-write history or change the phrasing because it upsets someone's sensibilities. As long as there is factual proof things happened as written,  it's true history. Sadly, so is the Holocaust . No amount of changing words or removing book from libraries and schools can change that. In learning history, personal or national--you have to learn the bad as well as the good, no gaps. It's important to keep them for people  to read so that terrible tragedies like those never happen again. There are books that teach you things, take you on adventures around the world, and entertain you.  If you like Science Fiction or Horror,  there are those. If you like mysteries or detective stories, there are also those. And of course there are several different Romance novels that are not full of filth and drugs. Books are a wonderful way to pass time on a rainy day or while waiting to go somewhere.  There are books on trivia, and how certain sayings came to be. The best book of all is The Bible. It may not have wording to suit everyone, and it's definitely been around a long time--it's an historical treasure.  But no one should ever think of rewording it or removing it from circulation.  Books are for both the old and the young.
