To others, it's just an old, empty wood
And stone farmhouse on land that is bare and
Covered with weeds. Not very interesting--but it's
History with it's family and memories are quite grand.
The land it stands on and that surrounds it,
Was purchaed many years ago by a young farmer
And his wife to build a home, rais a family, and start
What would be the family farm for generations thereafter.
They planted crops and tended them with care.
Each family memeber was taught to love the land.
They fought weather and crop disease, but never
Gave up. Gardens planted, vegetables and fruit always canned.
The family grew by leaps and bounds. All the kids did chores,
Went to school, and spent time running and playing in the
Fresh, clean air. They had their meals together as a family--
Always thanking God for their blessings and His love.
Each generation added to or updated the house as needed.
If the house could talk, it would tell of times of joy
And laughter, sorrow and tears. The excitement of getting
Indoor plumbing. The birth of each girl and boy.
Eventually, the parents of the latest generation
Had grown too old to keep the farm. Their kids
Lives were elsewhere, and though it broke their hearts--
The house and land wre auctioned for the highest bid.
So even though the old house looks worn and
Empty, it holds the memories and feelings
Of love of the family that built it, and it kept
Safe and warm. Hardly dull and boring.
