I know that church isn't a hotel for saints,
It's a hospital for sinners. But sometimes
It seems God's message isn't getting through to
Everyone. Newcomer's say they feel God's love inside.
What they don't see, is if you're a member for a long
Time--that feeling of God's love from the other
Members, starts to go away. I know people get
Old and ill--that I understand. The other's I'm stunned.
When someone is sick or has lost someone,
Even though the church office is notified--
And their Sunday School prayer chain called,
People say they didn't know, it makes you cry.
I know I'm far from perfect and being a good
Christian--but I've heard people say things
That cut to the heart or just stop speaking to their
Old friends, "we've moved on" the only reason given.
Some still speak, but rarely--and when they do,
The act cold and distant. A couple that were Charter
Members both had their funerals in the Mortuary
Chapel instead of the church they built in the early years.
I have no problem bringing new members to God--
That's the best thing anyone can do.
But they have to remember to care for the original
Members that feel alone and left out too.
My Mom has cried many times about the way
She's treated at church. She has several
Health problems and can't always go--but she's
A long time member and goes when able.
There are some who speak and have chats
With her--but others don't unless left no choice.
All we want is a church where old and new
Members are welcomed, and we can rejoice.
