HOT SUMMER NIGHT

On a hot summers night
In a sleepy little town--
There was no breeze,
No cool air to be found.

The day had been just
As bad, with the sun
Shining bright and feeling
Like it was burning everyone.

If your air conditioning
Broke down, your business
Was closed for the day.  Older
Schools wouldn't have classes.

The attire for the town folk
Was shorts, tank tops, and  flip flops.
That was all that they could bear.  Regular
Checks on the elderly were daily stops.

Nobody wanted to go to the movies
Or out to dinner--it was just too hot.
Even the fish in the river
Had no worry of being caught.

Everyone prays for a nice,
Cool rain fall--nothing destructive.
Just nice, soaking rain to refresh
The little town where they live.

Always be sure to stay hydrated
During these hot summers, and
Wear sun screen to save your skin
From cancer--you don't really need a tan.

And take care of your pets
And livestock, the heat affects
Them too.  They're God's creatures
And have the right for us to protect.

Soon the rain will come--
And everyone and everything
Will be able to breathe
Fresh air once again.
