Sometimes it makes you feel sad
That the "millennial" generation has
Never heard of Johnny Carson or
Watched a John Wayne move, alas.
They don't know Robert Mitchum,
Dean Martin as both actor and singer--
Or Jackie Gleason, Jack Benny, Jimmy
Stewart, and Henry Fonda--Jane's father.
There used to be great westerns
And variety shows, and they used
To have revolving movies of different police,
McCloud, Banacek, they ruled the roost.
Who can forget Columbo in his ratty
Trench coat and beat up car, leaving
A suspect's house and stopping to say: "just
One more question?" Charlie's Angels were appealing.
The great shows that are rarely shown
Now except on late night cable TV.
They brought us great actors as well
As great memories.
