Passages

Whether we realize it or not,
Our lives are full of passages.
For that matter, our lives themselves
Are passages as we go through stages.

Some people book passages to travel
On a plane, ship, or train.
Others have a favorite poem or passages
Of scripture they read again and again.

There are some cultures in countries
Where they have rites of passage
Toward becoming an adult and doing
Odd jobs here and there to earn wages.

Some religions also have ceremonial
Rites of passage like bar mitzvahs
And bat mitzvahs coming of age,
Or confirmation--parts of religious law.

Even going to school can be
Considered a passage of sorts.
Graduating to the next grade--
Learning teamwork in sports.

No one knows what their
Life passage will bring.
It may not be easy, but it's
God's plan and He knows everything.
