Abandoned

It's getting colder, now--
Winter's moving in,
Sometimes rain, sleet, and snow.
Search for food in trash bins.

Try to find somewhere
Safe and cozy to sleep.
I was abandoned--why I don't know,
Guess they thought I was too much upkeep.

It's not just dogs and cats
That are out here alone--
Humans, some are veterans,
Also don't have homes.

It's a shame that they
Fell through the cracks--
Lost to society, sadly.
Society should have had their backs.

We all need love, care,
And homes.  We give love,
And loyalty in return.
And redeem lives to be proud of.

Don't beat or harass us,
We're just trying to get by.
We only ask for an answer--
The question:  WHY?
