To Keep Children Safe

I'm not standing on a soapbox,
Or trying to take away people's rights.
I'm just writing what I feel about
Things that keep me up at night.

I understand the Constitution
Gives us the right to keep and bear arms--
All I ask is that they're locked away where little children
Can't get them and do themselves and others harm.

I'm not denying peoples rights
To protect home and family--
But when a gun is left where a 3 year old
Can accidentally kill himself, that's the bottom line for me.

Next is marijuana, I understand it medicinal value--
But to legalize it for recreational use because it does no harm,
There's a dead baby out there whose foster father was high
And left her in a hot car--to me that sounds an alarm.

These tragedies don't always happen--
It's just a sad accident some say.
Please safety-guard your children,
And keep your firearms locked away.

And if you have to get high "recreationally"
To deal with your kids and life--
You shouldn't be a parent--not even foster,
Until you're squared away and get your priorities right.
