Shadows

We see shadows
In bright sunlight,
And spooky shadows
In the dark night.

Shadows turn into monsters
For kids at bedtime.
Everyone has shadows
Of all different kinds.

There are shadows
Of temptation that
The devil throws at you--alcohol
And drugs that change you at the drop of a hat.

There are shadows
In your life
That when remembered--
Cut like a knife.

The shadows of your mind,
Whether real or imagined--
Can turn off the glimmer of light,
And the tunnel is darkened.

All shadows are real
To the one who has them.
They feel they can't go on,
And it kills her or him.

I pray for a time
When we're all shadow free,
And just enjoy being alive
The way it's meant to be.
