Did someone ever tell you a secret--
And ask you not to tell?
Did you keep your promise,
And keep it to yourself?
For some people it's easy--
Others, very hard.
They like to tell things
And catch people off-guard.
There are childhood secrets
Best friends tell each other--
But if someone is hurting you,
Don't keep quiet and suffer.
There are goofy secrets--
Like who has a crush on who,
Or that you lied to your parents
And said you didn't miss curfew.
There are grown-up secrets
That if leaked can cause trouble and pain.
Some could mean life or death--
And the blabbermouth is to blame.
If you tell your country's secrets
To their enemies--
Then you're called a traitor, put in a cell
And they threaten to throw away the key.
It's best to live your life simply,
Be kind to all you meet.
Be truthful and honest--
Then there will be no secrets to keep.
