Birthdays

Little kids love them--
Teenagers still get somewhat excited too.
Adults and the elderly don't really care,
But everyone deserves their due.

There is Mother's, Father's, and Grandparents Day,
Days for bosses and their staff--
Not to mention federal and traditional holidays,
It's enough to make you daft.

But every person deserves a day
Set aside just for them.
To show respect for their very presence, and all
The times life knocked them down and they got up again.

And of course there are the milestones,
For those who didn't expect to be here so long--
Who made it through when others didn't,
Is a reason for celebration and song.

It doesn't have to be a big
Whing-ding, just a card or a gift will do.
To let them know they're not forgotten
And mean something to you.
