People

In case you didn't know it,
They are everywhere,
And come in all shapes and sizes--
Some are cruel and cold-hearted and just don't care.

They come from all ethnicities,
All religions and cultures,
Some come on their own or for asylum--
Refugees from their governments of vultures.

Each one in their own way,
Wants the same thing--freedom and respect,
And to not always be afraid, coming here legally--
Not sneaking in after some midnight trek.

Some are caring and giving,
Some do small kindnesses for no reason--
It's just their way to express love, and they
Could teach the cold-hearted some lessons.

They each left their countries
For different reasons--
They can keep their language and traditions,
But need to learn English
If they want to be Americans.

They can practice their religions,
Even if different from others.
Under God's sight--
We're all sisters and brothers.

If you come only to cause mayhem and murder--
Don't expect to be welcomed--
You are terrorists and when you come---
You are NOT granted freedom.

Just because we're all different,
Doesn't mean some shouldn't live--
I know of no religion that teaches
Bombing, rape, murder or hatred.

You don't kidnap or try to kill
Young girls who only want to learn--
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone",
NO ONE that right has earned.

If we could just live on this earth
And not compete with or kill one another--
Lessons could be learned peacefully,
And passed from parents to sons and daughters.
