Memorial Day

It used to be called
Decoration Day--
To honor our military
Who at their final rest lay.

To remember the ones
Who gave the ultimate sacrifice--
WWI and II, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War and Desert Storm,
While families at home also paid a painful price.

As years went on, they changed the name:
To Memorial Day --to honor all who died,
Military or not, young or old, for all
Who are gone--for whom we've cried.

We spend 3 days
Honoring the Red, White and Blue--
And on graves put flowers and flags
To show our loved ones they're remembered too.

It's for every citizen
Of the USA--
Whether buried here
Or in countries far away.

As the song says:
"Some gave all, All gave some".
For Memorial weekend,
We are all one.
