Anger VS Anguish

You hear it all the time,
Their hatefulness and disdain--
You take it until you can't,
And lash out--not in anger but in pain.

You're the odd one out--
You don't go along with the crowd,
You just want friends and to be happy--
Not be bullied or cowed.

You were taught to be kind to others--
Evidently they weren't taught the same,
They do everything they can
To make you feel stupid and ashamed.

It's bad enough at school--
But some families are like that too.
There is no one to listen,
Believe or stand up for you.

It's a nationwide epidemic--
You hear it almost everyday on the news,
Of massacres in malls, theaters,
And even grade schools.

We need to come together
As a country-no matter income
Or religion, famous or not--
Our anguish and anger as one.

And put God and prayer
Back where they belong--
Our government and schools,
And our families for generations to pass along.

To treat each other as equals--
With respect and dignity,
We're all in this together:
Can't we be friends, not enemies?
